The Mont Blanc Legend kids zone on La Flégère, Chamonix, is perfect for families
On ski days in Chamonix we have our pick of five mountains but each time our 6 year old begs us to take her to La Flégère (part of the linked Brévent-Flégère ski area). The lure being the totally brilliant Mont Blanc Legend kids zone. More and more ski resorts are now providing kid friendly pistes and Chamonix is no exception. It’s hands down her favourite piste to ski. So if you’re on a family ski holiday in Chamonix with kids, be sure to check it out.
La Flégère is a great family ski mountain as it’s blessed by being south facing, having stunning views of Mont Blanc and has a rich and varied natural terrain for all levels of skier. South facing means the pistes are less bullet proof first thing, the kids are less likely to be cold and you’ve got a high chance of getting that goggle tan you’ve been hankering after to show off back home. The Mont Blanc Legend kids course is located on the Libellules piste (‘dragonflys’ in French) on La Flégère, five minutes up the valley from Chamonix in the village of Les Praz.
You can access La Flégère by Brévent (as the two mountains are linked with a liaison cable car) but with young kids we find it’s easier to take the 5 minute bus ride from town or drive and park in the large free car park at La Flégère.
Half way down there’s the excellent Mont Blanc Legend snow playground. You can’t miss it – flags fly furiously in the breeze and banners adorned with marvellous graphics of the evil witch and beautiful sylphs (read the story at the bottom of the lift station). Here littles ones can clamber through tunnels, whizz down slides. There’s even a ZIP WIRE!
On leaving the ‘snowground’ the Libellules piste continues with more hanging targets to jab at and another slider box.
Check out our movie clip below to see just how great this area is. As any ski parent knows, the secret to a fabulous family ski holiday is to keep everyone happy – I think La Flégère has this one in the bag!
GOOD TO KNOW:
Buy a 1 day or a 4 hour pass to access La Flégère. The ‘Chamonix Le Pass’ ski pass covers you for Brévent-Flégère, Les Grand Montets or Le Tour BUT if you think you can ski in the morning and have enough stamina to do some sightseeing in the afternoon (….debatable with kids but older kids maybe yes) DEFINITELY buy the Mont Blanc Unlimited pass, it’s a bit more but gives you free access to both the Aiguille du Midi cable car AND the Montenvers train up the Mer du Glace – two famous tourist attractions that you won’t want to miss.
Child (5-14) 1 day Cham Le Pass €42.90
Family pass – 2 adults/2 children – Chamonix Pass – €156.60 (saving of €30.30)Adult 4 hour Cham Le Pass – €45.00
Child (5-14) 1 day Cham Le Pass – €38.30Adult – 1 day Mont Blanc Unlimited Pass – €62.00
Child – 1 day Mont Blanc Unlimited Pass – €52.70
Family pass – 2 adults/2 children – Mont Blanc Unlimited Pass – €192.20 (saving of €6.20)
GETTING TO LA FLÉGÈRE:
The bus is only 5 minutes to Le Praz, the village from where the cable car to La Flégère departs. Catch bus numbers 01/02/11 or 12 to get there. Otherwise you can drive and park in the large free car park next to the lift station. Another option is to catch the Brévent cable car up and ski down to the connecting cable car over to La Flégère but this is to be avoided if you have small children who could tire quite easily.
FEBRUARY:
In February La Flégère can have queues both getting up the mountain (and down once the home run closes) so book your tickets online to reduce waiting time.

Hi Mike. Thanks for your comments. Yes we love it here. Sorry to hear you’ve had health problems and so glad you’re back skiing again.
My family and I have just had an amazing week in Chamonix. I took my eight year old daughter who I have been teaching to snowboard to Flegere on three consecutive days.
The Trappe brought back fond memories of teaching my now wife to snowboard before our marriage and children. Unlike my children my wife cried through the learning process!!
The Mont Blanc legends course was a big favourite of my eight year old daughter. She loved the arches and ringing the wind chimes. The views and sunny slopes kept us happy and warm. We will be back for more next year!
Thanks for this!!
Great to hear that your family loved Flegere as much as we do! Your poor wife – it’s much easier learning anything as a child! I wish I’d learnt to ski at 3 years old like my two – maybe I wouldn’t be laid up in bed in recovery from my ACL op! I love knowing that skiing will be natural for them for all their born days now and that they love the mountains just as much as we do. Thanks for reading our blog Jason and happy snowboarding next year.
This is a wonderful resort and the slopes are great after not skiing for 6 years due to ill health, I really enjoyed the experience at La Flegere a brilliant place to ski and eat…….
